Last Hawthorne Hike of the school year!
Join us for a special last Hawthorne hike at Johnson Ranch Trail on Saturday May 23 at 1pm.
Getting to trail head
Join Lucia Baesemann from the City of San Luis Obispo’s Office of Sustainability and Natural Resources for a family-friendly educational hike at Johnson Ranch Open Space. This easy, hour-long walk through the gentle hills of the San Luis Obispo Greenbelt will introduce participants of all ages to the plants, wildlife, and climate resilience projects helping protect this cherished open space for future generations.
Along the way, families will learn about hands-on efforts the City is using to adapt to climate change, including tribal-led cultural burns, regenerative grazing, tree planting, and innovative Beaver Dam Analog projects in Dry Creek. Lucia will share engaging stories and interactive insights designed to make environmental stewardship fun and accessible for kids and adults alike.
Participants will also have the opportunity to share their ideas and hopes for the City’s next Climate Action Plan update, helping shape the future of San Luis Obispo’s open spaces and natural resources together.
